We have had the Taco for 2 weeks now so it’s time to start upgrading the thing. First thing: Get rid of those crappy stock fog lights and throw some LEDs in there. I want to use the factory plug so I will get to do some rewiring this week.
In the meantime, here is a video of the power sliding back window. I am glad we held out for the 2017. Not as cool as the Tundra and 4Runner, but it’s something.

Your factory fog lights take an H16 bulb, right? Why not just get an H16 LED bulb? What rewiring do you need to do? Just doing a quick bit of research there are apparently regular and right-angle socket H16 bulbs, and you can get both kinds on Amazon for cheap.

I’m just going to rewire the factory plug onto the LED lights that I got. I think the ones I bought will be a lot brighter. I will take pictures.

Good start,
these BD kits are on my list for the next Tacoma;

They aren’t cheap - but they are a super clean install and hard to beat lights.

I don’t see any good reason to mess around with the wiring of a nearly brand new vehicle when there are really available LED bulbs that will do the trick. Why not just return the bulbs you got and buy the right ones?

He isn’t messing with the factory wiring, he’s changing the wiring on the new fog lights so he can just plug them into the factory harness.
I don’t like replacement bulbs in factory housings for the same reason xenon kits for headlights are a bad idea: they aren’t right for the job. He can probably get way better output using dedicated, designed-for-LED fog lights.

I get that he’s hacking the sockets from the factory bulbs on to the some-other-size LED bulbs, and not altering the wiring of the truck itself. I figure might as well get the right kind of bulbs for the wiring rather than frankenstein it for no particular reason.
As for LED bulbs in housings not designed for them, sure it’s not perfect, but we’re talking about fog lights here that generally only cast a small additional bit of light over the headlights. I have LED bulbs in my fog lights and they work fine. I just wanted their color to match my HID headlights.

These will be 10X as bright as factory fogs even with LEDs.

I already had the lights so I just needed to buy the brackets.

Ah, see, when I read “throw some LEDs in there” I thought you meant you were putting LED bulbs in the stock housings, not replacing the whole housing.

I’ve done 4 things to my 2015, Weathertech Mats, Sidesteps so my little dude can climb in easily, matching tint on the front windows, and a TRD pro grill. The grill was a frivolous purchase, admittedly, but I like how it looks. Oh yeah, and the hitch plug/insert. Silly it didn’t come with the truck.
Despite the grief they’ve gotten, I like the 3rd gen. Good looking truck that should be as reliable as prior trucks.
I miss the full down rear window from my Crewmax Tundra. Don’t miss the size of that truck, though.

We got the Toyota OEM all weather mats thrown in with the truck. No kids in this neck of the woods (yet) so no side steps. We might do an aftermarket grill but we will see.
Love the truck so far. It will be in the family for a long, long time.
